Is it safe for the vehicle?
Remapping process enhances and optimises the power of the engine within safe limits, not beyond them. Extra power will also result in fewer gear changes, which may actually reduce overall wear. Manufacturers build in a tolerance to manage the effect of wear and tear on engine parts, production variations and to ensure their warranty claims during their warranty period (normally 3 years) are kept to a minimum. Most race and rally engines are pushed for every last BHP and are therefore more likely to fail. Whilst normal car / van / lorry engines are limited well before multiple failures become likely, each individual engine is different in how far it can be pushed as a result of a remap. A good remap from a quality tuner will never get close the limits of component failure. You may have seen that the other tuning companies within the market place quote vehicle improvements at higher outputs for similar vehicles. Beware of tuners who claim significantly more, it may be that the engine will be pushed too hard and become unreliable.
Why don’t the manufacturers do it?
Manufacturers generally sell one vehicle to various markets. Markets in different geographical regions have different tax and emissions regulations, climates (including extremes of temperature and humidity), fuel qualities, operating altitudes, etc. A manufacturer has to take all of these factors into consideration and make substantial compromises in the vehicles operation. We aim to optimise the engine performance.

What do add-on tuning boxes do?
We never use or fit add-on tuning boxes. They usually work by interfering with engine management signals to trick the injectors into adding more fuel. Our services involve a custom remap of your ECU, specifically for your vehicle. A tuning box relies on the principal of more fuel equals more power. The theory is correct. However, in practice they are unable to control a correct air to fuel ratio, resulting in too much fuel and excessive black smoke. The black smoke is un-burnt fuel exiting through the exhaust system and has no affect on power gain. A tuning box raises emissions and increases the thermal load on the engine. A tuning box sends false signals to the ECU, preventing the ECU from working correctly to protect the engine and to maintain safety.
What is torque?

Our services involve a custom remap of your ECU, specifically for your vehicle. Torque is the twisting force created in an engine by the rotating parts. Horsepower is the measurement of how fast torque is being used. Horsepower and torque work hand-in-hand, as horsepower is calculated from torque. It is easier to accelerate and sustain speed with a high-torque vehicle in any situation. However, high-torque vehicles are particularly good for towing or hauling heavy loads.
What is BHP (Brake Horse Power)?
Brake horsepower (BHP) is the amount of power generated by a motor without taking into consideration any of the various auxiliary components that may slow down the actual speed of the motor. Brake horsepower is measured within the engine’s output shaft. Depending on the configuration of the engine, the point on the output shaft that is the focus of the measurement is the engine dynamometer. The reference to this type of horsepower measurement as brake horsepower has its origins in the braking systems that were used on some of the first automobiles in the early 20th century. Many cars were equipped with a hand brake that would slow the forward projection of the vehicle. This same hand brake was also used in the manufacturing process to gauge the amount of torque created within the motor, making sure the output was within acceptable limits. In the actual calculation of brake horsepower, it is necessary to consider the total load of the electric motor. This means disregarding any drain on the power that is due to the water pump, generator, or the gearbox that work in conjunction with the motor of the vehicle. The amount of power loss that occurs due to the action of various belts and pulleys is also added back into the base figure, making it possible to determine the true amount of pure horsepower being generated by the motor.

Do You Offer Custom Remapping Mobile Service
We do now offer a mobile service here as in the previous answer, the remapping of the vehicle is simply one part of the service, testing and tuning that we deliver as part of our remapping service. We need access to our specialist diagnostic equipment and the internet if need be to ensure that the remap we provide is truly getting the most from your vehicle. Therefore offering a mobile service for remapping should be as simple as adding a new file into the ECU overwriting the old version, after fully testing and driving the vehicle to make sure it suits both the vehicle and the requirements of the driver, then and only then will we be happy with the tune, this is something we feel strongly about.
Can You Remap My Car Or Van

Will The Remap Be Lost If I Disconnect The Battery?
The remapping changes a software file in the cars ECU, so you will not lose the remap should you disconnect your vehicles battery.
Will Remapping Effect My MOT
When or if done correctly! Your remap applied to your car or van, should not have any impact when it comes to MOT time.
What is an exhaust emissions test?
An exhaust emissions test ensures the levels of pollutants emitted from your car exhaust are within legal limits.
The test is compulsory for all diesel, petrol and gas-powered vehicles with four or more wheels:
- For petrol or gas-powered vehicles first used before 1 August 1975, a visual test is applied
- For petrol or gas-powered vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1975, a metered test is applied
- For diesel vehicles first used before 1 August 1979, a visual test is applied
- For diesel vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1979, a metered smoke test is applied
Petrol vehicles be checked using an analyser to assess the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC).
The first test consists of checking the emissions at an engine speed of 2,500rpm – 3,000rpm. During this test, CO must be at or less than 0.2%.
The second test consists of checking the emissions at an engine speed of 450rpm – 1,500rpm. During this test, CO must be at or less than 0.3% these settings are usually controlled by what’s referred to as a Lambda sensor.
For Diesel engines, the MOT emissions rely on a ‘Metered Smoke Test’
Prior to the smoke test, the MOT operative will make sure that the engine is functioning correctly by raising the engine speed to approx 2,500rpm. The engine RPM will then be slowly increased to the maximum to check the operation of the engine.
- If the engine speed stabilises at its maximum speed, the engine will be returned to the idle speed and will move on to the next part of the test
- If it is not able to stabilise, the engine will be returned to the idle speed and the vehicle will fail the test
For vehicles that actually pass the first part, the MOT operative will prepare a smoke meter by insert the sampling probe into the exhaust tailpipe. There is usually a sticker with the manufacturers smoke limit under the slam panel of the bonnet near the VIN and paint colours, this figure can not be exceeded on the test, however if your engine is healthy and in good serviceable condition this figure should be achievable even with a remap. Diesel engines failing this test is usually down to either blocked air filters or leaking injectors out of the ECU control parameters.

Is remapping safe for my engine?

What’s the difference between OBD remapping and bench tuning?

Is remapping legal?
Yes — when carried out professionally. We only adjust parameters within the mechanical and thermal limits of the engine. Properly calibrated remaps maintain engine reliability and drivability.
Are our remaps generic?
Each remap we provide is meticulously customised to suit your car and its particular modifications. When carrying out stage 1 and stage 2 remaps, we will use tried and tested base files tweaking where we can to improve the power delivery or performance figures of the remap. With custom tuning, we will write a bespoke remap for your cars.
Do I need to upgrade my clutch?
For 6-speed PD130/PD150 gearboxes, a healthy stock clutch is typically fine up to ~250 bhp. On the PD100 5-speed, an upgrade is usually needed once you go beyond Stage 1. For higher targets (250+), we recommend a 6-paddle clutch mated with the stock Sachs dual mass flywheel for strong bite and street manners.
What should I check before tuning?
Fresh oil & filters, no boost/vacuum leaks, healthy MAF/N75, no clutch slip, no fault codes. We can run diagnostics and road logs before mapping to catch issues early.
